ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
A year ago I met Shasta through a friend and went to one of her first art showings in this cute space in Astoria.
I am really impressed with her work- I like the modern aesthetic while still really capturing the dog’s exact profile.

SHASTA MOLNAR | Jackson Hole, WY
www.picassodog.com
Raised in Arizona, Shasta earned her BFA in Utah before moving to New York City with the goal of finding her passion.
A talented actress and painter, Shasta loves travel, meet new people, and their pets. Her inspiration is as simple as her subject matter. “I love dogs, they all have a unique personality which makes what I do very fun and challenging. I don’t want to just paint a picture. I want to capture a moment that tells a story about who they are.”
Before moving to Jackson Hole recently, Shasta used to collect her material about the city. “Tompkins Square Park is one of my favorite places to go. It’s a large part dividing small and large dogs. I like small dogs as they get really excited jumping on each other and running around like little rockets! You can’t help but laugh!”
If you purchase any of her art or commission a painting for your dog please mention The District Dog sent you her way- Thanks!
The Name Game…
Picking a new puppy’s name is hard; especially when you have two people deciding together…As we all know the name game is hard when you actually sit down and try to think of a cool name. Well, I was bored one Christmas break hanging out thinking of cool dog names-and I had a random breakthrough and came up with tons! Since then I have added to the list over the years…
So for the soon to-be parents here is my list…Please add to them in the comment section below- thanks!

The Chai Story
http://www.thechaistory.blogspot.com/

On Sunday, June 22, 2008 my 10-year old lab mix, Chai, sustained a severe injury from a product that the company Four Paws Inc, produces. The toy I’m referencing is the pimple ball with bell. (Item #20227-001, UPC Code 0 4566320227 9) While chewing on the toy, a vacuum was created and it effectively sucked his tongue into the hole in the ball. From speaking with my vet, this likely occurred because there is not a second hole in the ball preventing the vacuum effect from happening. I became aware of this when Chai approached a friend at my home whimpering with the ball in his mouth. She tried unsuccessfully to remove the ball but the tongue had swollen and could not be released.

Fashion for Paws 09

The District Dog is proud to have been a part of Fashion for Paws 09, thrown by The Washington Humane Society, by specially designing promotional fliers with a discount for the goodie bags. We donate to The Washington Humane Society and were very excited to be a part of this fun and important event our first year in business!
Fashion for Paws infuses the nation’s capital with cutting edge high fashion, drawing an extraordinary crowd of VIP’s, fashion and animals lovers alike. The fashion show and fundraising event features sixty notable personalities as the models on the runway. F4P includes 3 different categories of models walking the runway, with one category comprised of fundraising models who agree to raise funds in the weeks leading up to the fashion show and participate in a friendly fundraising competition. The top male and female fundraiser will be awarded the title “F4P Model Washingtonian of the Year,” on the runway. In just its first 2 years, F4P DC has been a smashing success, selling more than 1000 tickets each year, and raising more than $330,000 for charity. This year, to date, the F4P fundraising models have already raised a total of $98,000 in just 4½ weeks.
We are all thrilled to be returning to the Embassy of Italy, and are certain that we will exceed the accomplishments of last year’s success, even in these troubling economic times.
This year Tysons Galleria has signed on to be the official fashion partner of the event. Models will be strutting down the runway in selections from the spring 2009 collections of: 7 for all Mankind, Betsey Johnson, Cache, Cole-Haan, MaxMara, Nicole Miller, Liljenquist & Beckstead, Ermenegildo Zegna, Anthropologie, Cartier, David Yurman, Lacoste, Saks Fifth Avenue and Aram.
Make-up will be done by Chanel and hair will be styled by Toka Salon.
KM Canine Couture will be created by Kristina Robertson of Barkley Square Gourmet Dog Bakery & Boutique, and will be in keeping with the designs worn by the two-legged models on the runway.
Teatro Goldoni restaurant will be the VIP section sponsor, providing lavish Italian fare for VIP seated guests, as well as providing special service to the VIP tables.
For the third year in a row the runway and staging production will be handled by NoMad Event Systems, this year unveiling a new sleek design reminiscent of runways in Milan, Paris and New York, yet still able to accommodate those models on four-legs featured in the F4P show.
The official F4P after party for VIP ticket holders, models and committee members will take place at L2 Lounge from 12:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m.
