Q: Do you board dogs?
A: Yes, we do offer boarding services. We offer two options:
Our first option is your dog stays in the comfort of their own home and one of our experienced and insured and bonded pet-sitters stays in the home and cares for your dog according to your schedule and instructions.
In addition to caring for your dog, the sitter will gladly bring in your mail and water your plants. You dictate the details of your dogs routine and feeding schedule prior to your departure. If you need them fed and walked early in the morning, we are here to help! Fido always gets a late night pee before bed? No problem!
Our second option we provide is that your dog boards with us. Often, this means they will be staying with another dog, as our employees do have pets of their own. Again, you dictate the schedule and details prior to your departure.

Q: Are you insured and bonded?
A: The District Dog’s professional accreditation is with Pet Sitters International (member # 30475). We are also bonded & ensured to protect the safety and security of your pet and home. Our coverage is with Business Insurers of the Carolinas underwritten by Century Insurance Group. All coverage inquiries or claims should be directed to 1.800.962.4611
Additionally we operate a program named The Hero Fund, which provides free ASPCA pet health insurance to all
full-time clients. This is The District of Columbia after all and we are doing our part for healthcare reform!- dogs included! And without saying all full time employees are provided with Healthcare through Golden Rule. |
Q: Will my dog be walked by the same person every day?
A: Yes, your dog will be walked by the same person each and every day.
It is our experience that this provides for a more comfortable visit and walking experience for both your dog and our walker as both learn the others nuances, tricks, and behaviors. You can always count on the same professional service each and every visit. With that said, on occasion your primary pet care provider may need a day off and in that event you will be notified beforehand who will be substituting for him/her that day- your substitute will always be another professional walker whom is insured and bonded. (NOT some random friend filling in!)

Q: How many dogs are walked together in a group walk?
A: All dogs are walked in groups of four or less. We firmly believe this is the safest maximum number to still provide sociability while maintaining best safety practices. |
Q: How will I know for sure that you have come to walk my dog?
A: The District Dog leaves a pawgress report after all walks detailing the days activities. In addition, our walkers pick a signature style for hanging the leash that differs from your own. This extra step helps ensure if a walker ever spaces on a note that the vacuum of information is not filled negatively.
Q: Does my dog need to be licensed and vaccinated?
A: Yes, all dogs must be licensed and vaccinated to be walked by The District Dog. To ensure the safety, sanitation and health of your pet and other pet clients, we require that you please comply with our health and shot requirements. At the time of initial consultation we will provide you with specific details of paperwork we need to keep on file. Puppies are given solo care until they are all caught up on required shots.
In addition, The District Dog does not allow retractable leashes during group walks, as they are dangerous to all dogs in the group. (This is non negotiable) We require a non-retractable leash to be provided for the safety of all. Thank you for your assistance in keeping your dog’s safety our number one priority!

Q: How does in-home boarding differ from a boarding facility?
A: In-home boarding is a highly personalized service. It provides your pet with the highest level of comfort and security. The District Dog pet-sitters are carefully screened, have had thorough background checks, and are insured and bonded. Your pet and their sitter already have an ongoing relationship, since often times the sitter is also the walker. With in-home sitting your dog stays in the comfort of his/her own home or comes and hangs out on on one with us in our home. We send text updates, pictures, twitter a whole multi-media array of updates- Yes we are as crazy about your dog as you are!

Q: What happens if I need to make a last minute schedule change?
A: Changes of schedule happen. Just let us know as soon as possible. We ask that you do not leave a note with the walker or a voicemail, rather e-mail us at scheduling@TheDistrictDog.com This way it is in writing and immediately uploaded into our daily calendar. Thank you.
We are closed on Memorial Day, Labor day, Columbus day, Veterans day, Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving (Thursday and Black Friday), Christmas day, New Years, Presidents day, and Martin Luther King Day. Please make arrangements for your pets’ care for these days.
Boarding services are 365 24/7 but it is highly recommended you reserve holiday boarding at least two weeks in advance and we require a non-refundable deposit to reserve holiday boarding care.

Q: What is the HERO FUND?
| |
A: Life is not a luxury. Hero’s spirit was carefree, loving, and generous. His spirit lives on every time we enroll a member of our pack* with free health care coverage ; ensuring every member of our pack is able to afford the medical care he or she needs. After all, when your pet is hurt or sick, you have enough to worry about without having to think about how you’re going to pay for treatment. A parent should never have to choose between a pet’s well-being and personal finances. Although we have never had any injuries on our watch we still believe in preparedness and extra peace of mind.
The District Dog provides free ASPCA pet health insurance to all full-time clients. Hey, this is The District of Columbia after all. Healthcare reform starts here!
